Subscribe to Real Live Preacher

I've been blogging at Real Live Preacher since 2002. In 2004 I quit my job as a web designer to devote half of my life to blogging/writing. I used to see those as two different things. Now the line between them is blurred. Making even half a living as a writer isn't easy. I've tried a lot of things. I write for various publications and take what comes in that way.

Since 2004 some very nice people have become subscribers to this blog. That means they send a little money to help support my writing and blogging. There are two ways to subscribe to RLP:

1. You can give a single donation amount of at least $60.
2. You can use paypal's monthly subscription service to allow paypal to take a little money out of your account every month.

Details for how to make domations are at the bottom of this page. Whichever you choose, I'm very grateful.

Subscribing to Real Live Preacher is something you do if you want to. I've never pushed subscriptions or intend to. It's a thing you can do if you want to.

As a meager way of saying thanks to those who have supported my writing and blogging financially, I do a few things for subscribers.

If you subscribe to rlp, you'll need to create a rlp user account. I then upgrade that account to subscriber status. Doing that does several things for you.

1. If you have a blog, you are listed in my subscriber blog list [1]. And your blog will be featured occasionally at Real Live Preacher in a rotation with the other subscribers.
   
   
2. You gain access to my more personal blog. This is a new feature at Real Live Preacher. Some postings will only be viewable to subscribers. There's a new flickr box for subscribers that gives you access to some photos, if you're interested in that. My intent is to run ideas by the subscribers on this personal blog too, getting feedback in the comments.
   
   
3. I have a library of audio files online that subscribers can access. Those used to be hard for me to make, but they are much easier now. Sometimes I read my essays and talk a little bit about the inspiration behind them. Here's a sample of an audio file from the subscriber archives and a video I made for subscribers last Christmas. The video is kind of long and rambling, but it's the sort of thing I'll be doing.

Paypal has a handy subscription program. When you sign up, money will be automatically drawn from your debit or credit account. Note: Keep your signup information to make cancelling easy for you, should you need to cancel.

Unfortunately, Paypal does not currently have a subscription button that lets you select the amount and how often you wish to donate. I have some amounts listed below, all as a regular, monthly donations. However, if you wish to give some other amount, say $23.67 each quarter, just email me and I'll build you your own custom button. Yes, just for you.
